On 29th of March, 2019, the company FireEye has released its ultimate hacking tool for the Windows computer bearing name Commando VM. The company stated that Commando VM is the first of its kind of Windows-based security distribution for the penetration testing and red teaming. Considering the best operation system often preferred by the hackers has always been the Kali Linux used in the penetration testing and by the ethical hackers. Unlike Windows and macOS operating systems, operating the Kali Linux is not everyone’s cup of tea due to its complexity. Until now there has been no Windows based operating system for the hackers due to the fact that Windows is not an open-source and most of the users find it pretty difficult to manually install penetration testing tools on Windows.
Keeping in mind the urge for such a revolution, FireEye has released their first ever automate installer under the name Commando VM to help the researchers and the cybersecurity enthusiasts. The name of the tool might be confusing for some but he is the clarification to it. Commando VM isn’t a pre-configured snapshot of any virtual machine image containing many tools installed on a Windows system and even it isn’t a complete distribution. Rather, it is an automated installation script that converts your Windows operating system into a hacking machine that is running on a virtual machine (VM) or even on a base system.
The Commando VM version 1.0 released recently contains two different setups of which one works on the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and the other is for the users who are running the Windows 10 operating system. Commando VM provides a smooth working environment by automatic installation of over 140 tools on your Windows machine that includes Wireshark, Mimikatz, x64-db, PowerSploit, Owasp ZAP, Nmap, Remote Server Administration tools, Burp-Suite, Metasploit and Hashcat.
