It is considered by many as the eBay of illegal goods. The marketplace became popular because of its large vendor base and strict policy that filtered out scammers. The market stopped operating after the arrest of Ross Ulbricht was made on October 2013. There have been many markets since then but none have reached the popularity as Silk Road 1.0.
