MtGox – Magic

It was a Tokyo-based bitcoin exchange and the first public exchange to exchange Bitcoins in return of USD. As it was designed without proper planning, it was plagued with security issues, which led to the shutdown of the entity due to insolvency. They are no longer in operation after claiming that they had been cheated by a third party due to some issues in the Bitcoin protocol.
