The LeetCode Illusion: Why Coding Interviews Don't Measure Engineering Skill

LeetCode-style interviews were always a weak proxy for real engineering ability — and AI has made them even more outdated. Real engineering is about debugging messy systems, navigating ambiguity, and making tradeoffs, none of which a 20-minute algorithm problem can test. It's time for interviews that reflect how the job actually works: broken codebases, system thinking, collaboration, and yes, AI-aware evaluation.
