People Were Never Told How AI Works, And That's a Problem
People do not use AI badly because they are careless. They use it badly because chat assistants look simple, but actually run on hidden mechanics: state, context, tokens, instructions, tools, reasoning, memory, and cost. Once users understand that a chat is not a search box, long conversations can become polluted, reasoning has a cost, tools add weight, and prompt caching matters in repeated workflows, many “AI failures” start looking like setup failures. The practical lesson is simple: keep chats focused, give precise instructions, avoid unnecessary context, use tools intentionally, and structure prompts with cost in mind.
