This study analyzes how developers use ChatGPT in collaborative coding environments, focusing on shared GitHub conversations from the DevGPT dataset. Developers turn to ChatGPT for tasks like code generation, debugging, conceptual guidance, and code review. The research finds that real-world interactions extend beyond simple prompts, involving iterative, multi-turn dialogue and varied developer roles. Future work will explore automated prompt-type detection and assess how prompt-engineering best practices affect conversation quality and coding outcomes.
