Salesforce’s CodeT5 Could Change How AI Writes and Understands Code

Researchers at Salesforce introduce CodeT5, a unified encoder-decoder AI model that both understands and generates programming code. Unlike earlier models, it learns from developer-chosen identifiers and code comments, improving semantic understanding. Trained on CodeSearchNet and tested on CodeXGLUE, CodeT5 sets new state-of-the-art results across 14 tasks, including bug detection, code translation, and summarization.
