Ethereum After EIP-4844: 82% Lower Costs for Rollups

EIP-4844 has significantly improved Ethereum’s efficiency as a data availability (DA) layer for rollups. Post-upgrade, total data posted to Ethereum rose over 100% while calldata size dropped sharply, especially for optimistic rollups. Fees per block fell by 72% and the cost per MiB of data plunged by 82%, making Ethereum far cheaper for rollup operations. Gas usage also dropped markedly, with optimistic rollups benefiting the most, while zk rollups saw smaller gains due to the nature of zero-knowledge proof transactions. Overall, EIP-4844 delivers major scalability and cost benefits across the Ethereum rollup ecosystem.
