EIP-4844, Blob-Carrying Transactions, and the Future of Ethereum Rollups

EIP-4844, also known as Proto-DankSharding, is a major Ethereum upgrade designed to improve data availability for rollups while keeping block sizes sustainable. Instead of using costly calldata for temporary data storage, it introduces blob-carrying transactions — a more gas-efficient method that stores large datasets off the execution layer for 18 days before deletion. This reduces costs, increases scalability, and strengthens user security by making transaction data temporarily accessible for verification without overloading the network.
