CathAI: Researchers Built an AI That Reads Heart Scans Like a Cardiologist

Researchers developed CathAI, a deep-learning system that can automatically analyze coronary angiograms and estimate artery blockages linked to Coronary Artery Disease. Trained on 13,843 studies from University of California, San Francisco, the AI identifies artery views, locates stenosis, and predicts severity. It achieved AUC ~0.86 for detecting obstructive disease and worked on external hospital data, suggesting AI could standardize angiogram interpretation and reduce diagnostic variability.
