A Decade of Modern Code Review Research Shows Gaps in Industry Priorities

This study systematically maps over a decade of modern code review research, evaluates its methodological quality, and compares academic focus areas with how practitioners perceive their importance. Using a mixed-methods approach—combining systematic mapping, citation analysis, and practitioner surveys—the findings reveal where research and industry priorities align, and where meaningful gaps remain.
