What Is DMT?

 

Call it Dimitri, call it Fantasia or call it a spirit molecule but it is good old DMT — or N, N-dimethyltryptamine in medical talk.

DMT is found naturally in many plant species and has long been utilized in religious rites in several South American countries. And you guessed it right; It can also be made in a laboratory.

It is not the same thing as ayahuasca; Ayahuasca is traditionally prepared using two plants called Banisteriopsis caapi and Psychotria viridis. The latter contains DMT, whereas the former contains MAOIs, which prevent your body's enzymes from degrading DMT.

DMT, like other drugs, has a wide range of effects on various people. Some truly enjoy the experience. Others find it overwhelming or frightening. This awful experience has been referred to by some as a poor trip.

Those who have used it have described feeling like they're going at warp speed through a tunnel of dazzling colors and forms. Some claim to have had an out-of-body experience and to have transformed into someone else. Several people claim to have visited other worlds and communicated with alien-like species. Or most commonly; little witty dwarfish elf-like creatures or just gnomes…  many claim to be harmless - but you can be the judge of that!

Synthetic DMT comes in the form of white crystalline powder which can be slightly pinkish or yellowish. Usually, it can be smoked in a pipe, vaporized, or even snorted. DMT can also be injected, but this method is said to come with additional risks; we say don’t do that.

 

 

Plants and vines are boiled to make a tea-like drink of varied strengths when used in religious ceremonies.

Synthetic DMT kicks in pretty fast. It usually provides results in a few minutes, but it might take up to ten minutes. Plant-based brews usually have an impact within 20 to 60 minutes.

The intensity and duration of a DMT trip are determined by various factors, including:

• How much you use
• How you use it
• Whether you’ve eaten
• Whether you’ve taken other drugs

Generally, the effects of vaped DMT, snorted, or injected DMT last for about 45 to 60 minutes. Taking it in a brew like ayahuasca might cause you to trip for 2 to 6 hours.

Maybe it is for you or maybe not… I have a feeling that if you have acrophobia, despite your curiosity, you may not like this trip; or maybe you can just prove me wrong...
