Torum: Will The Cybersecurity Forum Shut Down Eventually?

Torum, which is a non-profit cybersecurity forum for the users of the tor network, is going to shut down. The administrator of the forum has posted an announcement on the landing page of the forum that has notified the forum users of the eventual shutdown. What was striking in the statement was that the administrator had regarded the forum’s operation to be a successful one. At the same time, he has thanked the moderators of the forum from preventing the platform from turning into a “spammed mess”.

It literally took the forum three long years to grow into something that it is now having over 130,000 users, as stated by the administrators. The message of the administrator that has been put out is available on the index page of the Torum’s onion address and has also been provided here. You can find the administrator’s PGP key in the forum listing on the Dark Web Link’s forum index.

I am retiring. I ran Torum for over 3 years, the truth is I lost the passion for hosting Torum a long time ago but kept it online for the community. Torum has always been a non-profit project for me, even to the extent of rejecting donations. We grew to be a strong community of over 130,000 members. Compared to how some other projects conclude, hosting for over 3 years and wrapping up on my own terms is what I would consider being successful.

Is it possible Torum returns in the future? Maybe. But I’m taking a break from the darkweb for a while, so even if Torum did possibly return it wouldn’t be anytime soon. Is it possible I give Torum away to someone I think is capable of hosting it and they relaunch it? Who knows. Maybe that could work, but again, I’m not rushing into anything. What I can say is Torum is gone for the foreseeable future, potentially permanently.

Thank you to everyone that contributed to the growth of Torum. Thank you to all Torum moderators, past and present, without you Torum would have been a spammed out mess. To all the people that tried to take Torum down over the last 3 years, I hold no grudges. I wish a prosperous future to everyone.

Goodbye.

The moderators of the cybersecurity forum have kept the platform free from the spam that the staffs on the other forums are still struggling to eliminate or keep it at the minimal level. The forum administrators of the other dark web forums have proven that maintaining a forum at this level is pretty tricky. Even the administrator of Dread, HugBunter has struggled with the spams that had been forced by a small number of the threat actors. Along with this, the co-administrator of Envoy, Fortuna too had faced difficulty keeping the forum online at specific times. Both Dread and Envoy have supposedly dodged the chronic DDoS (Denial of Service) attacks that have tanked their availability for over months at a specified interval of time.
