William Thomas Glarner III 65, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in a dark web drug ring with his son. In their previous court appearance, they pleaded guilty to separate charges of illegal methamphetamine trade. This is similar to a reported case about a father and a daughter charged for operating a dark web drug ring.
His son, William “Billy” Glarner IV 35, also admitted to obtaining drugs from multiple sources and distributing them to customers in exchange for cryptocurrency. According to the report, they delivered packages to customers using the U.S. postal system on multiple occasions through which they got arrested.

On 9 January 2019, authorities discovered a package at the Los Alamitos post office which was found to contain an illicit substance. Authorities also confiscated another package at the Cypress FedEx location being sent to a customer. It was then discovered that both packages contained about 121.4 grams of methamphetamine. The return address on both packages was indicated as Mainstay Nutrition in Long Beach. Authorities then traced the address and found Glarner as the dealer behind the drug packages.
During the execution of a search warrant, authorities found materials that were used by the father and the son for the packaging and distribution of the drugs at the trunk of his car.
On 14 March 2019, Glarner was arrested after they discovered a white substance in a bag that weighed about 3 pounds in his car. It was reported that the substance tested positive to methamphetamine. Including the items confiscated during the search were a plastic wrap, digital scales, and unused plastic baggies and latex gloves. They were used in drug packaging and delivery.
His arrest was part of an investigation into his son’s drug operation. Thomas Glarner was then charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute drugs and two counts of attempted distribution of methamphetamine according to the court document.
Billy Glarner who was reported to have played a very crucial role in the drug ring admitted to having used three separate pseudonyms to sell drugs on the dark web marketplace. He successfully processed around 1500 controlled substances including methamphetamine. He pleaded guilty to distribution of methamphetamine. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Billy assisted his father in packaging and distributing drugs using the postal service to customers, including one other confiscated package to a dark web customer.
Billy faces a mandatory sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a statutory maximum sentence of life in prison. His father, Thomas was sentenced to 15 years in prison according to a report.
This arrest forms part of the global operation that has been launched by law enforcement and other agencies to combat the crime that comes with the dark web.

In a recent operation launched, authorities arrested 61 individuals suspected to have been involved in a dark web drug ring with 50 accounts to engage in criminal activities. About 300 kilos of drugs, 51 firearms and around $7 million was confiscated. This and many other operations and measures have been said to be in the pipeline to arrest and prosecute perpetrators. Billy Glarner will reappear before the court on 4 November 2019.
