Facebook is looking to hire a blockchain expert in Africa. The messaging app provider recently had a job vacancy for a public policy manager who would be responsible for working closely with Facebook’s Africa Public Policy team to ensure blockchain technologies and digital payments which will play a part in improving Africa’s socio-economic development.” The job listing does not mention Libra, Facebook’s cryptocurrency project, and it is not clear how involved the hired employee would play a part in that initiative. Nor does it mention Calibra, the Facebook wallet for the currency. The blockchain expert position will be based in London or Johannesburg and will involve a lot of travel and calls. The candidate should also be a blockchain expert with additional knowledge on digital identity and Cryptocurrency. According to International Monetary Fund a leading financial advisory firm popular for granting loans and emergency funding to countries in need of finance have stated that mobile money accounts have now crossed bank accounts in sub Saharan Africa and it is the only economy in the world with less than 15 percent of gross domestic product transaction takes places through mobile.

As confirmed by Facebook, besides hiring for a blockchain expert in Sub Sahara Africa it is looking to fill around 50 positions relating to the position of blockchain including a public policy manager for other countries. Facebook in a press release said that the issues surrounding the launch of Libra as a Cryptocurrency have met with strong criticism from the government regulators and other agents that are related to the domain, but solving all the technical ethical points is the priority for Facebook. Only after the dust settles down and clarity over the issue is reached and a consensus has arrived only then Facebook will go ahead with plans to launch the Libra Cryptocurrency.
